New research conducted by AlphaBeta and published by the Sydney Morning Herald in Australia shows that during the COVID-19 lockdown Aussie gamblers took to online gambling with a rise of 67%.
The rise is above the usual usage during the first week of April as the study used showed that many were on sports betting sites, which of course was not accurate as there was no sports taking place, so punters were in online casino and poker sites.
According to statistics the rise eclipsed other increased activities during the period such as online purchases and streaming services for movies and shows.
Social responsible campaigners said they feared the huge rise would cause a spike in problem gambling in the country.
With Australia and New Zealand now opening up to sports once again and relaxing rules on social distancing campaigners hope that punters will go back to their traditional ways of gambling.
